Chamber Hosts Health and Wellness Panel Discussion

Fountain Hills, AZ–Corporate wellness is all the rage for large companies but in Fountain Hills the focus is on options for smaller employers.

The Chamber is featuring six local experts in medicine, healthy eating, stretching, ergonomics and health insurance for a panel discussion at the September 17, FH Connect breakfast. Panelists include:

• Dr. Jyoti Patel, Fountain Hills Pediatrics & Internal Medicine

• Barbara Debi, 360 Physical Therapy

• Christy Shaft, Spooner & Shaft

• Sharon Madsen, Food Sense AtoZ

• Cindy Holliday, TruFit Studios

• Jeanine Harris, J Harris Insurance

Nearly every large employer in America offers some type of company-wide health insurance and corporate wellness program. These are tools for retaining employees as-well-as reducing absenteeism and illness.

However, what is available for small companies? If an employer is willing to be creative, there are many types of programs and options to help employees “feel the love” and stay healthier. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention indicates increases in employee illness due to simply sitting behind a desk all day.

Christy Shaft, co-owner of Spooner & Shaft, stresses the importance of stretch breaks with her clients who work in desk or repetitive jobs. Through her many years in practice, she sees the results of those who ignore this important habit.

A workplace health program, does not have to include high-priced health insurance, but can provide employees with increased activity while decreasing use of sick days. Employers develop reward systems for frequency and goal attainment while allowing time for exercise.

The Health & Wellness Forum is September 17 at the Fountain Hills Community Center. It’s part of the Chamber’s monthly FH Connect breakfast networking from 7:00 AM to 8:30 AM. The cost is $15 per member and $25 per non-member or guest. Registration and payment is available at www.fhchamber.com or call (480) 837-1654.

The Fountain Hills Chamber of Commerce is a thriving, dynamic business association. We are committed to the success of our members through networking, education and advocacy. Founded in 1974, the Chamber has been instrumental in the growth and support of the local business community.
