#FountainHillsFriday: Stroll in the Glow 2016
Now that the Thanksgiving holiday has come and gone, many eyes are turned towards the other winter holidays! Those who are looking to kick off the winter celebration season, make sure to stop by Fountain Hills’ Stroll in the Glow!
The 2016 Stroll in the Glow will be held Saturday, December 3 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM located on the Avenue of the Fountains in Fountain Hills, Arziona.
This annual event marks the beginning of the winter holiday season in town, complete with all of the classic favorites; tree lighting, letters to Santa, live nativity scene, petting zoo, holiday band, carolers, horse drawn carriages, and of course, an appearance from Santa Himself!
The main event is definitely the lighting of over 60,000 twinkling lights that adorn the Avenue of the Fountains, covering trees, light poles, and traditional holiday scenes. At approximately 5:45, Mayor Linda Kavanagh will “flip the switch” and turn all of the lights on, illuminating the entire down town area in Fountain Hills.
Along with all of these festive activities, many of the businesses on the Avenue of the Fountain remain open during the time of the event (5:00 PM – 7:00 PM), and offer other fun ways to partake in the holiday festivities! According to the Times of Fountain Hills, some of our Chamber members are even participating in bringing holiday cheer to the Stroll in the Glow!
One member, Sofrita, traditionally offers a delicious hot coco stand right on the Avenue of the Fountains. Make sure to stop by their patio to grab a hot cup of coco to warm up once the sun goes down!
The Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church graciously hosts the annual live Nativity scene, which is complete with camels, wise men, goats, ducks, shepherds and more. Children love to stop by to meet all of the furry friends!
Sonoran Lifestyle Real Estate will open their doors for their “Elf Village”, which will offer festive family crafts, as well as letters to Santa. For the adults, their upstairs will have beverages, as well as a great place to view all of the lights.
Another Chamber member, the Fountain Hills Community Band, will be entertaining spectators with all of the classic holiday music that comes back to play this time of year. Whether they play “Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer” or “Jingle Bells”, their beautiful songs will fill the air with holiday cheer.
Does your child or grandchild want to write a letter to Santa? If so, make sure to stop by the “Letters to Santa” stand sponsored by Gridleys of Fountain Hills. At the end of the event, we will make sure that all of the letters get hand delivered to the man in the big red suit, just in time for Decemeber 24!
One of the most favorite parts about the Stroll in the Glow is the horse-drawn carriage rides proved by Re/Max Sun Properties. This addition to the event creates a “right out of a story-tale” feeling, perfect for the holidays.
Some might argue that the main event is always the highly anticipated visit from Santa Claus himself. Bring your children, grandchildren, nieces or nephews for their chance to climb on Santa’s lap, tell him what they want for Christmas, and grab a keepsake photographs you can keep for years to come. Let’s hope all of the children are on the “Nice” list this year!
