Monday Member Spotlight: Fearless Kitty Rescue

Happy Member Monday Spotlight! This week we got to hear all about Chamber member Fearless Kitty’s successful fundraiser, the 2017 Fearless Kitty 5K from volunteer Victoria Gallager. 

On Sunday, March 26, Fearless Kitty Rescue held their second annual 5k at the Scottsdale Sports Complex in the heart of Scottsdale. All proceeds benefit Fearless Kitty Rescue. This year’s event was bigger and better than the inaugural race held in June of 2016. 

The Fearless Kitty 5K was a fun filled event as 396 cat-crazed runner and walkers, sporting their best cat-themed running costumes, hurried their way around the 5K course, surrounded by soccer fields and gorgeous landscaping. Additionally, there were 82 “virtual” runners, who participated in the event from all around the globe in their own home town.

Ruairi Monyihan took first place at the event, followed by Nick Coury in second place, and Brooke Andrus in third place overall.

Stuffed cat prizes were awarded to the first, second, and third place winners in the event’s cat costume contest.

Through the efforts of runners, walkers, cat lovers, volunteers, sixteen sponsors, “sponsor-a-cat” donations, nine vendors, and many other donors, the annual 5K event has become Fearless Kitty’s largest fundraising activity. The funds will enable the rescue to save the lives of many more cats now and for years to come, especially as the 5K and other fundraising events continue to grow and spread awareness throughout their cat-loving community.

The rescue said that they could not have asked for better weather at a sunny sixty-two degrees. 

The fearless Race Director, Lisa Cargill, her incredible volunteer teem, along with Startline Racing made sure the race and entire event ran smoothly and on time.
