#FountainHillsFriday: Love Letters
New year, new production at the Fountain Hills Theater! Last night was the opening night for Love Letters, a lifelong story of the bond between two people shown between years of written exchanges.
According to the Fountain Hills Theater, Love Letters is a touching and funny comedy by A.R. Gurney that creatively showcases Valentines and thank-you notes exchanged as children between Andrew Makepeache Laddd III and Melissa Gardner, who come to become lifelong confidantes.
Through sharing fifty years of joys and disappointments, large and small, they forge an intimacy that transcends distance and time. As circumstances pull them apart, their letters – often hilarious and always eloquent – always bring them back together.
Love Letters is a unique and imaginative theater piece comprised of letters exchanged over a lifetime between two people who grew up together, went their separate ways, but continued to share confidences. As the play unfolds, what is created is an evocative, touching, and frequently funny buy always telling story, in which what is implied is as revealing and meaningful as what is actually written down.
The exciting part of this production is that there is seven unique “versions”, as seven different local “celebrity” couples perform the show by reading all of the love letters and act as the portrayed couple. These couples included Brenda and Kurt Warner, Judith and Jay Lawrence, Duffy and Pat McMahon, Mary Jane & Cory McCloskey, Erika and Steven Hunter, and Linda and John Kavanagh, and the theater’s own director Peter J. Hill and his wife, Noel Irick.
Opening night took place yesterday (January 5), featuring Kurt and Brenda Warner, but there are still showtimes up until the final performance on January 15. You can visit the Fountain Hills Theater website here, or call their box office at (480) 837-9661 extension 3.
