What to do on a rainy day in Fountain Hills
From watching the Fountain to viewing the stunning mountains, there’s really a lot to do in Fountain Hills, Arizona on a rainy day.
If you like the rain, a quick stroll in Fountain Park will serve to get your juices flowing. While at the Park, you can enjoy the world famous fountain. At its full height of 560 feet, the fountain in the center of Fountain Hills is higher than the Washington Monument. It is 10 feet taller than Notre Dame Cathedral, 110 feet higher than the Great Pyramid of Cheops in Egypt and three times as high as Old Faithful in Yellowstone Park. The Fountain runs every hour on the hour for 15 minutes from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. everyday of the week! This fountain is a celebration of life and water where it is most appreciated – in the middle of the desert.
After that I suggest visiting Euro Pizza Cafe for a quick appetizer, lunch or even just a specialty coffee. While you’re in the area, and if you have a pet, you might pop in Allehunde Gym for Dogs and check out some activities for your furry friend. Get some cold treats at the locally owned and operated Oyo Yogurt before heading out for some sight seeing.
Strolling the Art Walk might be a little wet but if you pick-up an umbrella at Fry’s, Bashas or Safeway, it will be worth your time. Learn more about the Public Art Walk in Fountain Hills, here. You can see one of the southwest’s largest public art collection which includes an array of bronze sculptures that range from Presidents Washington and Jefferson, animals large and small, Humpty Dumpty and musical quintet at the entrance to the Fountain Hills Community Center. A visit to the Emerson Art Gallery will keep you dry and give a wide flavor for local art.
Take a stroll up the Avenue of the Fountains to see some of the latest water fountains added to the Town with the world’s third largest fountain. See the under construction mixed use Park Place development which brings together commercial business spaces and residential living. At the end of the Avenue is the Fountain Hills Town Hall for more information about working and living here and the River of Time Museum–a must see gem in Fountain Hills. By then the weather will change and the sun will be out again.
